Program Description
The term STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The STEM Scores for HOPE Scholarship program is specifically designed to help Hispanic high school students achieve STEM education success. This program will be administered by the United Way, with an initial implementation at Hutto ISD. The scholarship will be awarded to a total of ten (10) Hispanic public high school students. This effort has been implemented in collaboration with Hispanic elected and appointed leaders, the United Way, Maggie’s Hope and delegates from our corporate partners. Initially, only Publicly funded high schools that are located within the Hutto Independent School District are eligible to participate. Each recipient will be selected by an independent evaluation committee, including but not limited to the program sponsors.
The scholarship will award $250 for each qualifying STEM grade with a max award of $1,000 per semester. For each qualifying award an equal amount will be donated to Maggie’s Hope to help families with special needs children. The scholarships and matching awards will be awarded upon the end of each semester for each qualifying grade in a STEM subject while maintaining a base high school GPA of 3.0 or better. Recipients can apply for the scholarship with each successive year in high school.
The inaugural event will take place at half time during an Austin Toros game on December 2nd, 2012.
